I need some help from you faceless millions out there reading this; I can't remember or find online the specific word that means the 'guide words' at the top of dictionary pages.
I vaguely remember reading it once, and having to look it up, ironically, in a dictionary, but of course now I can't recall what it was or where I read it.
Anybody able to help me with this lexicographical lament?

you have it..."guide word" is the common term for the words at the top of a page in the dictionary. a synonym is "catch word."
